Service ARGOS Graphing Process
Posted By Cory Nathe
I have been asked to take a look at seeing if I could "clean up" the Service ARGOS data plots that
I have set up the interactive web interface to create. The attempt has been to filter out the
Satellite messages in Service ARGOS that have no
message 200 seconds before it and 200 seconds after it. These are the
beginning of pass (AOS-acquisition of signal in space talk) and end of
pass (LOS - loss of signal) data and may be corrupted because they are
at the ends of the pass. They may be causing the noisy data spots on the
graphs.
So the first attempt was to change the graphing program to do just that and here are a look at
some of the results:
As you can see this process took out quite a few of the noisy points on the graphs as we wanted.
However if you look at what the same process did to the AGO-2 graphs some different things happened.
From the original graphs you can see that the Servcie ARGOS messages have decresed in frequency from AGO-2
after around day 85. And because of this, these points are usually "isolated" in time, meaning that they
don't have messages 200 sec. before and after them. This will cause the new graphing process to remove
these points, even though they seem to be valid points, as you can see in the following graphs:
This result gave me the idea of changing the filtering process so that it would take out
the AOS and LOS data that was talked about above but leave the "isolated" points, because it
seems to be unclear whether these are noisy points or valid points. This seemed to work because
the AGO-2 graphs recovered the points after day 85 which were a result of the infrequent
messages from AGO-2. Here are the results of this new process:
Here are all of the graphs for AGO-1 with the 2 different filtering processes:
